The field of education includes a range of professional roles that require comprehensive understanding of the education curriculum and advanced communication skills.

In this degree you will learn about the field of education from the perspective of someone who isn’t intending to seek registration as a qualified school teacher.

You’ll explore core learning areas of the curriculum and learn how to respond to the diverse needs of students.

You’ll examine mentoring, leadership and research within an educational environment. This knowledge is useful for those working in education administration and management teams. You can specialise in early years and primary education or in secondary education.

After you graduate from this course, if you are interested in seeking registration as a qualified teacher, you can apply for entry into our initial teacher education courses and apply for Credit for Recognised Learning for units you have completed.

Please note: this course is not accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. The course is therefore not suited to those who wish to register as a teacher.

This course includes core studies, elective and optional units. Students are able to undertake electives and optional units to specialise in an area of interest.

Various assessments throughout the course may require students to work with infants, children or young people in family or community-based settings. Students will be required to have a current and valid Working with Children clearance as required by the state or country in which the placement provider is located. They will also need to meet any other relevant State requirements before engaging in any work with children or professional experience. If students have any doubt about their eligibility to acquire these clearances they should contact the local Teacher Registration Authority.

‘Experience’ includes a combination of factors sufficient to demonstrate readiness for higher education such as mature-age entry, professional experience whether completion of the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) is required or not, community involvement or work experience. Applicants may have undertaken non-formal programs that have helped prepare them for tertiary education or are relevant to the proposed higher education field of study.

Fees are indicative first year only and are subject to passage of legislation.

*The indicative first-year fee is calculated on 200 credit points, which is the typical full-time study load per year, however some courses require additional study to be completed, in which case the fee will be higher than that shown.

Acceptance Due Date for International Students

There are 3 different categories of acceptance due dates:

For countries listed here (Country List), acceptance due date is 7 weeks before course start date, as stated on your Offer Letter. If you have a GTE Finance or GTE Interview condition on your offer, you must submit the GTE documentation 2 weeks before the acceptance closing date.
For all other countries which are not listed in the list, the acceptance due date is 3 weeks before the course start date.
If you are currently in Australia on a valid visa, the acceptance closing date is 1 week before the course start date.

Curtin has a duty of care to ensure all international students have sufficient time to have their student visa issued and to arrive in Perth in time for the Orientation Week and the start of classes. The timeframes stipulated above allows Curtin to process your completed documents and for the Department of Home Affairs to issue your student visa in time.
