This program prepares registered nurses without current registration in Australia for registration. Internationally qualified nurses with current registration may seek registration within Australia after successful completion of this program.

This program advances the qualification to bachelor level for diploma qualified registered nurses who are already registered in Australia.

Applicants must have a minimum of three months of work experience as a registered nurse in the last five years in an acute setting.

Manual Handling and Basic Life Support Certification is required prior to commencement of the course and then updated on a yearly basis. You will need to keep these requirements current during your course. You are responsible for the cost of these.

You must be available to undertake clinical practice during and/or outside semester in health care facilities. You must also be available to work rotational shift work, including morning, afternoon and nightshift.

A break from study of more than one semester may incur additional clinical practice.

This includes study at a public TAFE or other VET provider, whether a qualification was completed or not. Applicants with VET study may have other qualifications such as a Year 10 or Year 12 secondary school certificate.

Applicants with higher education are those whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, such as a university degree. This may include applicants who are currently studying a higher education course at another education provider and want to transfer to Curtin University, or applicants who are currently studying at Curtin but want to switch to a different course. It may also include applicants who have completed past study with university and non-university higher education providers.

Curtin course switcher criteria

To switch into this course, you need to have:

completed at least 100 credits, with a course weighted average (CWA) of 65% or higher if the course is not completed, with an academic status of Good Standing; and
met the admission criteria for minimum entry.

To switch into this course, you need to have:

completed at least 100 credits, with a course weighted average (CWA) of 60% or higher, with an academic status of Good Standing; and
met the admission criteria for minimum entry.

Students in the UniReady enabling program must complete the program with a course weighted average (CWA) of 60% and a grade of 70% or higher in BIOL0001 Introduction to Health Sciences unit.

Higher education course switcher criteria

To switch into this course from another higher education course, you need to have:

Manual Handling and Basic Life Support Certification is required prior to commencement of the course and then updated on a yearly basis. You will need to keep these requirements current during your course. You are responsible for the cost of these.

You must be available to undertake clinical practice during and/or outside semester in health care facilities. You must also be available to work rotational shift work, including morning, afternoon and nightshift.

A break from study of more than one semester may incur additional clinical practice.

Ranking and Selection Process

Entry to this course is competitive, with limited places available. For non-school leaver applicants, offers will be made in the following distinct rounds. Please submit your application and documentation as soon as possible.

Round 1: Friday 20 October 2023
- Eligible applicants who applied prior to 8 October 2023 will be ranked and assessed for offer.
Round 2: Friday 24 November 2023
- Eligible applicants who applied prior to 12 November 2023 will be ranked and assessed for offer.
Round 3: Friday 22 December 2023
- Eligible applicants who applied prior to 10 December 2023 will be ranked and assessed for offer

School leaver applicants to refer to TISC – important dates

Please note:

Applicants will be ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and entire academic record.
Applicants must provide all required documents and be assessed as eligible to be included in the ranking for an offer.
Meeting the minimum entry requirements and course specific prerequisites, does not guarantee selection.
Applicants with outstanding results will only be considered for an offer upon submission of the results.
Eligible applicants will remain in the ranking pool until the conclusion of all offer rounds.
In the event the course reaches capacity the University reserves the right to close the application process.

Fees are indicative first year only and are subject to passage of legislation.

*The indicative first-year fee is calculated on 200 credit points, which is the typical full-time study load per year, however some courses require additional study to be completed, in which case the fee will be higher than that shown.

To be eligible for the Commonwealth supported fee:

Australian citizens must complete some of their course of study while residing in Australia.
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens must be residing in Australia for the entire course.

Acceptance Due Date for International Students

There are 3 different categories of acceptance due dates:

For countries listed here (Country List), acceptance due date is 7 weeks before course start date, as stated on your Offer Letter. If you have a GTE Finance or GTE Interview condition on your offer, you must submit the GTE documentation 2 weeks before the acceptance closing date.
For all other countries which are not listed in the list, the acceptance due date is 3 weeks before the course start date.
If you are currently in Australia on a valid visa, the acceptance closing date is 1 week before the course start date.

Curtin has a duty of care to ensure all international students have sufficient time to have their student visa issued and to arrive in Perth in time for the Orientation Week and the start of classes. The timeframes stipulated above allows Curtin to process your completed documents and for the Department of Home Affairs to issue your student visa in time.
