This course sits within the double degree combination of Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts, and also the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Commerce. Applicants have the choice of which double degree combination they would like to study.

Career information

Graduates will be equipped with skills aligned to the needs of a number of government agencies:

  • Department of Environment and Conservation
  • Office of the Environmental Protection Authority
  • Department of Transport
  • Water Corporation

The course will also prepare students for employment as Environmental Officers in Regional Development Commissions and local governments.

Graduates will be suited to employment within the private sector, including companies involved with resource extraction and post-extraction restoration, environmental consultancies, eco-tourism enterprises, and environmental restoration.

Admission criteria

I’ve gone to university before

Applicants with higher education are those whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, such as a university degree. This may include applicants who are currently studying a higher education course at another education provider and want to transfer to Curtin University, or applicants who are currently studying at Curtin but want to switch to a different course. It may also include applicants who have completed past study with university and non-university higher education providers.

Not all Curtin courses accept course switchers from other institutions.

    Curtin course switcher criteria

    • attained an ATAR of 75; or
    • completed 100 credits with a semester weighted average (SWA) of 60% or higher; and
    • met the prerequisites.

    The Math Applications prerequisite can be met with:

    • Math Applications ATAR; or
    • MATH1013 Introductory Mathematics; or higher.

    The Science prerequisite can be met with any of the following:

    • Animal Production Systems ATAR, Applied Information Technology ATAR, Biology ATAR, Chemistry ATAR, Computer Science ATAR, Earth and Environmental Science ATAR, Engineering Studies ATAR, Human Biology ATAR, Integrated Science ATAR, Marine and Maritime Studies ATAR, Physics ATAR, Plant Production Systems ATAR or Psychology ATAR; or
    • BIOL1000 Functional Biology; or
    • BCCB1000 Cell Biology; or
    • CHEM1003 Introduction to Chemistry; or
    • CHEM1001 Biological Chemistry; or
    • PHYS1006 Foundations of Physics; or
    • GEOL1005 Fundamentals of Geology 1.

    Advanced standing

    At Curtin, we understand that everyone’s study journey has been different.

    You may have already studied some of the units (subjects) listed in your Curtin course, or you may have work experience that matches the degree requirements.

    If this applies to you, you can apply for credit for recognised learning (CRL), which means your previous study is recognised and matched against a similar unit in your intended Curtin course.

    A successful CRL application exempts you from having to complete certain units within your course and means you could finish your degree in a shorter amount of time.

    CRL is also known as recognition of prior learning, advanced standing and credit transfer.
