About offering

Property is functional space from a family home to a block of units, a suit of offices, a rural retreat or a skyscraper. Whatever the shape, size or style, there are property professionals involved at all stages of property development.

It is suited to people who are interested in residential and commercial property, enjoy networking and want to work in a varied, dynamic and international profession.

You will be engaged by experienced industry professionals and study in an industry-focused learning environment. You will study a number of disciplines such as economics, finance, law, construction, architecture, investment analysis, and valuation theory and practice.

Completing this major can give you the necessary educational requirements to qualify for Australian Property Institute membership at the Certified Practising Valuer level, after an approved period of further industry training.

Property Valuation provides education and training in the property industry to meet accreditation requirements. It is offered as part of the Bachelor of Commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia has partnered with Curtin Business School (CBS) to offer internships to students who have completed 200 credits or more of their business degree. These internships are for course credit and provide real-world exposure to our students.

These business internships will not only give students credit towards their degree, they will receive the industry experience and practical skills needed to achieve great things after graduation and give employers the opportunity to support and lend their expertise to the students, encouraging the future workforce, whilst being assisted to meet their business goals.

Professional recognition

Graduates meet the educational requirements for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Graduate Members of the Australian Property Institute. Following two years of work experience in valuation and sitting a professional interview, graduates can become Certified Practising Valuers recognised by the Land Valuers Licensing Board. Graduates can (after required work experience) become Real Estate Agents holding the Triennial Certificate for the Real Estate and Business Agents Supervisory Board.

Applicants with recent secondary education are those whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the last two years, but also includes those who may have completed their senior secondary studies with a TAFE or other VET provider within the same time frame. This includes applicants whose secondary education was undertaken interstate or overseas.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study are those whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a VET course. This includes study at a public TAFE or other VET provider, whether a qualification was completed or not. Applicants with VET study may have other qualifications such as a Year 10 or Year 12 secondary school certificate.

Applicants with work and life experience are those who left secondary education more than two years ago (i.e. who are not classified as recent secondary education applicants) and have not undertaken vocational education training (VET) or higher education study since then.

‘Experience’ includes a combination of factors sufficient to demonstrate readiness for higher education such as mature-age entry, professional experience whether completion of the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) is required or not, community involvement or work experience. Applicants may have undertaken non-formal programs that have helped prepare them for tertiary education or are relevant to the proposed higher education field of study.
