Upskill with a short course
Curtin offers a range of short courses through edX, an online educator provider founded by Harvard University and MIT. edX courses are ideal if you want to upskill in a particular career area.
Some edX courses map onto Curtin postgraduate degrees, so you can extend your learning and earn a postgraduate qualification.
There are different edX course options available, depending on your career goals. These options are free short courses, known as MOOCS, MicroMasters® programs and professional certificate programs.
Free short courses
edX’s massive open online courses (MOOCs) are short courses that you can complete anywhere, anytime. Curtin offers a variety of MOOCs in areas relevant to today’s workforce.
These courses are free to study, but you can purchase a verified certificate which shows you have successfully completed the course.
If you decide to pursue further study with a Curtin postgraduate degree, you may be able to use your edX credential to gain credit for recognised learning, which can shorten the duration of your course.
MOOCs are usually between two – six weeks in length, and comprise subjects within higher-level MicroMasters® programs and professional certificate programs.
MicroMasters® programs
Curtin MicroMasters® programs are comprehensive, postgraduate-level university courses that give you in-depth knowledge in a particular discipline. They are self-paced, so you can study while you work and advance your career.
Gain credit towards a master degree
When you successfully complete a MicroMasters® credential at the appropriate level, you can apply for credit for recognised learning towards a corresponding Curtin master degree. This means you may be able to complete the course sooner and at a reduced cost.
Professional certificate programs
Professional certificate programs are a series of short courses that teach critical professional skills needed to succeed in today’s most in-demand fields.
Designed by industry leaders, these programs can take between two – four months to complete and can help you to make an impact in your workplace and achieve specific career outcomes.
